OUR ROOTS…

Against The Grain Restaurants is a locally owned hospitality company, located in the heart of Williamsburg, VA, that's modern, progressive, and dedicated to creating opportunities for its community. Co-Founded by Andrew Voss and Chris Cook in 2017, Amber Ox Public House was the duo's first project, a full-service restaurant that serves modern southern cuisine inspired by local harvest seasons and complemented by a curated beverage program featuring crafted cocktails and local and regional spirits. Amber Ox has established itself as a regional institution for its exceptional food, drink and service.

Alongside Amber Ox, Andrew and Chris also launched the highly successful Precarious Beer Project, which quickly gained recognition for its quality and craftsmanship. The rapid growth of the brand led to the opening of its flagship location, the Precarious Beer Hall, which houses two ATG Restaurant Brands, Electric Circus Taco Bar, and the Ol' Dominion Burger Bar. The Beer Hall is a drinking and dining destination in the city and is a testament to the partners' love of beer and life.

In March 2021, ATG Restaurants added The Bake Shop to its portfolio, a small artisan bakery and coffee bar that quickly gained a following for its handmade bagels, artisan breads, pastries and artisan coffee from local roasters who focus on sustainable and fair-trade sourcing.

The company's goals for growth are rooted in creating opportunities for local farmers, fishmongers, dairy farms, artisan producers and its team, while connecting the community through fresh, wholesome, responsibly handled food and drinks. ATG Restaurants stands behind its products and people, knowing that integrity is the most important thing. They choose to live life against the grain, following their passions instead of trends.
